Two Teenagers Held After Cat Found Dead, With 13 Firearm Pellets

The Paphos District Court ordered the four-day remand of an 18-year-old on Tuesday in connection with the death of a cat, whose body was found to contain 13 firearm pellets. A second 18-year-old was also arrested today in connection with the case.

According to police, the two young men are being investigated, among other offences, for conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour and a felony, illegal possession and transportation of a firearm and explosives, as well as firing a shot in a residential area.

The case was reported on Sunday, October 4, by a 56-year-old man, who said he had found his cat dead a short distance from his home. Members of the Animal Unit and Paphos Central Police Station went to the scene and carried out examinations.

A post-mortem examination conducted on the animal yesterday established that it had 13 firearm pellets in its body.

As part of the investigation, a court arrest warrant was obtained for the first 18-year-old, who was arrested yesterday. A number of exhibits were found and seized during a search of his home. The second 18-year-old, who is alleged to be involved in the case, was arrested today.

The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department’s inquiries are continuing.
