Cyprus has connected with Estonia as part of the further development of electronic cross-border health services, expanding the digital services available to citizens of the two countries.
According to an announcement by the National eHealth Authority, Cyprus’s participation in the European MyHealth@EU infrastructure continues to expand. The aim is to enable the secure exchange of health data and access to electronic health services beyond national borders.
Through the new connection, citizens of the two countries can, where the relevant services are available, have their electronic prescriptions available while they are in the other country. This facilitates their access to the medication they need.
Information exchange
At the same time, Cyprus and Estonia are exchanging Patient Summaries. As a result, when a citizen requires medical care in the other country, healthcare professionals can access key information needed for the safe and effective provision of care.
This information may include medication, allergies, diagnoses and other essential details of the patient’s health history.
The National eHealth Authority notes that this capability is particularly important for citizens who travel, work or temporarily reside in another European country and may require medical care.
According to the Authority, the connection with Estonia is another important step in expanding Cyprus’s European network through MyHealth@EU.
The National eHealth Authority adds that it is continuing efforts to connect Cyprus with an increasing number of European Union member states, with the aim of expanding Electronic Cross-Border Health Services.
