The Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides are holding talks with the UN as preparations continue for the envoy’s return later this month.

The two sides are holding separate, regular meetings with United Nations officials as groundwork continues for the next steps in efforts to revive the Cyprus peace process, CNA has learned.

Sources familiar with the process said both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides are meeting the UN team to discuss substantive issues relating to the Cyprus problem and prepare for the return of UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ Personal Envoy, María Ángela Holguín.

Holguín is expected to return to Cyprus during the final ten days of July. Before then, she is also expected to travel to Brussels for meetings around the middle of the month.

Her return follows a visit to Cyprus from 7 to 14 June, during which she held two rounds of meetings with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman. She subsequently briefed Guterres in New York on the way forward.
