The former DISY leader welcomed the S&P upgrade of the Cypriot economy, calling for a fairer redistribution of wealth, action on the cost of living, and a new push on digital transformation.

Former DISY leader Averof Neophytou described the upgrade of Cyprus's long- and short-term local and foreign currency ratings from "A-/A-2" to "A/A-1" by Standard & Poor's as a positive development, while stressing the need for a fairer redistribution of national wealth.

Commenting on the rating agency's announcement, Neophytou said the news was positive, but noted that the next challenge is to ensure the benefits of the country's economic progress actually reach society.

"Positive news. What's needed now is a fair redistribution of national wealth. Young people deserve their share, and older people deserve a dignified standard of living," he said.

The former DISY leader also set tackling the cost of living and bureaucracy as priorities, while putting forward the country's digital transformation as a new national goal.

"The fight against the cost of living and bureaucracy is essential. A digital Cyprus, our new national goal!" Neophytou concluded.
